A cafe, not a chain

There is a particular kind of cafe that a neighbourhood cannot do without — warm, unhurried, generous with its portions and its welcome. That is what we set out to be on Station Parade, and it is what we have tried to be every morning since.

Everything made to order

Nothing sits under a heat lamp here. Your eggs go into the pan when you order them, the pancakes come off the griddle straight onto the plate, and the gravy for the liver and bacon gets poured at the pass so it is still steaming when it reaches you.

We shop properly, too. Free-range eggs, proper back bacon, avocados chosen for the day rather than the week, and fruit that goes into the smoothie blender rather than a carton. It costs a little more and it takes a little longer, and every regular who comes back tells us it is worth it.

The lunch menu is old-fashioned in the best sense: liver and bacon with mash, homemade lasagne, cod and chips, a steak pie with real gravy. The sort of cooking that has quietly gone missing from most of London and that we have no intention of dropping.

Everyone welcome

Whatever you eat, we have you covered

A cafe should not make anyone feel like an afterthought. Vegetarians get a breakfast as generous as the full English — halloumi, avocado, hash browns, mushrooms, the lot. Vegans get their own plate rather than a list of things we have removed. Oat, soya, almond and coconut milk are all behind the machine, and we do not charge extra for them.

Halal options are on hand too — just ask a member of the team and they will tell you exactly what is available. There are high chairs for the little ones and a small menu built for them, step-free access from the pavement, plenty of room for pushchairs, and a water bowl outside for the dogs. If you need anything at all, please just ask — someone will sort it.

Our neighbourhood

Serving Canons Park, Edgware and the HA postcodes

Station Parade is a small run of shops facing Canons Park underground station, tucked between the residential streets of Canons Park and the green sweep of Canons Park itself.

That puts us within easy reach of a good chunk of north-west London. Edgware and Stanmore are a few minutes up the road, Queensbury and Kingsbury are one and two stops down the Jubilee line, and Burnt Oak, Belmont, Mill Hill and Harrow are all a comfortable drive. Plenty of our regulars are commuters who have worked out that a proper breakfast before the tube beats a sandwich at the desk.

If you are visiting Canons Park — the eighteenth-century estate grounds and walled garden are a five-minute walk away — we are the obvious stop before or after. Come in muddy; we do not mind.
